Skills:

Using typical verb tenses to discuss the accomplishments of another person, and vocabulary related to personal interests

  1. Ask the class what kinds of information about a book do they usually find on the first and last pages, fishing for the answer, About The Author.
  2. Have the class examine some typical About The Author blurbs in books.
  3. Instruct the students that they will present an About The Author blurb about themselves that hypothetically will appear on the next book that they publish. They will use the third person singular. They may be serious, comical, or a combination of the two approaches. They must speak for at least sixty seconds.
  4. If possible, video record the presentations and make copies available to the students. If they know beforehand that they will be recorded, they will probably create a real keep-sake.
